Jurassic Park (1993)

This is a great movie about an entrepreneur who creates a new theme park that centers around revived dinosaur species. He has a team of experts come to the island to give a seal of approval before the park opens, but bad things happen. This is the first movie in the series.

I think it is a great movie, I give it a 5 out of 5.

*It has recently been re-released in 3D in theaters and DVD.

Starring Sam Neill (The Hunter, Event Horizon) as Dr. Alan Grant, Laura Dern (Little Fockers, Everything Must Go) as Dr. Ellie Sattler, Jeff Goldblum (Independance Day, Man of the Year) as Dr. Ian Malcolm and Richard Attenborough (Elizabeth, Hamlet) as John Hammond.

Spy Game (2001)

A former CIA operative gets caught in China trying to free prisoners, while retiring CIA agent Nathan Muir who trained the operative recounts his meeting and subsequent training of the captured ex-agent. He then goes after him and tries to free him.

It is a great spy movie and features Robert Redford and Brad Pit early in his career. I recommend this movie to spy movie lovers and give it a 5 out of 5.

The Three Stooges (2012)

This is a re-make of the TV series and is VERY funny. The three actors portraying Moe, Larry and Curly do a great job as the original actors. This movie is about three orphans who discover a murder plot and Starr in their own reality TV show.

I recommend this movie as a family movie, and also to those who watched the original TV series.

I give it 5 out of 5.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)

Well........ This is a story about young Abraham seeing his mother bitten by a vampire, and he grows up to hunt and kill living vampires as he looks for the one that killed his mother. This movie has allot of good special effects and is pretty good.

I give this movie a 4.5 out of 5. I recommend watching if you like action and history movies.

A Bugs Life (1998)

This is a Disney film about an ant who gets into trouble and has to recruit an army of ants to defend his colony.

It is a cute Disney animated movie that is perfect for kids. I give it a 4.5 out of 5.

Sgt. Bilko (1996)

This is a remake of a TV series, that is about a man in the Army that runs a motor pool and in it he also has a gambling operation. The base he is located on is threatened to be closed unless they have a positive demonstration of a new hover tank.

This is a family comedy and I give at a 4 out of 5.

Starring Steve Martin (The Pink Panther 2, Bowfinger) as Master Sergeant Earnest G. Bilko, Dan Aykroyd (Ghostbusters I&II, The Great Outdoors) as Col. The Rocketeer (1991)

This is a cute Disney movie that was great in it's time. It is about a pilot who finds a jet pack and uses it to compete in flying competitions but gets chased by a gang of mobsters.

This is a good movie for kids and families.

I give it a 4 out of 5.

Starring Billy Campbell (Almost Kings, Ghost Town) as Cliff, Jennifer Connelly ( A Beautiful Mind, Blood Diamond) as Jenny, Alan Arkin (Stand Up Guys, Argo) as Peevy and former Bond man Timothy Dalton (License to Kill, The Living Daylights) as Neville Sinclair.




We Bought a Zoo (2011)

Well, this movie is not one of Matt Damon's better movies. It' s a movie about a man who' s wife passes on, and he moves his kids into a new house he just bought....which by the way comes with a zoo! He struggles to revamp the zoo and open back up.

It is a good family movie, I give it a 3 out of 5.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

This is the sequel to the movie Planet of the Apes, where a scientist discovers a chemical that allows both his ailing father and a chimpanzee to improve brain function and the chimp begins to develop human like tendencies.

It' s an O.K. movie with decent special effects. I give it a 3 out of 5.

2012 (2009)

Ahhhhh, the infamous apocalypse. This movie is about the supposed events that the Mayans predicted would happen at the end of the world in December 2012. It' s about those people that were selected to live on after the disaster.

Obviously, it didn't happen but it is still a good movie. I give it a 5 out of 5.

Starring John Cusack (The Raven, Hot Tube Time Machine) as Jackson Curtis, Amanda Peet (Identity Thief, Identity) as Kate Curtis, Chiwetel Eljofor (Salt, Children of Men) as Adrian Helmsley and Thandie Newton (Retreat, RocknRolla) as Laura Wilson.

 

3:10 to Yuma (2007)

This is a story about a band of outlaws in the wild west led by Ben Wade, when he gets captured by a Sheriff. A group of men try to get him to the 3:10 train to Yuma Arizona for a trial and a hanging. This is a great western style movie, and I recommend you see it.

I give at a 4.5 out of 5.

Cloud Atlas (2012)

This is an examination of the interaction of four lives and how they affect each other in the past, present and the future. It' s a great Sci-fi movie. It is a little hard to keep up with, and has great special effects.

Starring Tom Hanks (Apollo 13, Cast Away) as Dr. Henry Goose/Issac Sachs/Dermot Hoggins/Zachry, Halle Berry (The Call, Movie 43) as Jocasta Ayrs/Luisa Rey/Ovid/Meronym, Jim Broadbent (The Iron Lady, Another Year) as Captain Molyneux/Vyvyan Ayrs/Timothy Cavendish, and Hugo Weaving (The Matrix series, Captain America: The First Avenger) as Haskell Moore/Tadeusz Kesselring/Bill Smoke/Nurse Noakes/Boardman Mephi/Old Georgie.

As you can see each actor plays a series of characters, some are easy to recognize and others are not.

Apollo 18 (2011)

This Sci-fi thriller is awesome! It' s a gritty movie about video footage revealing why we never returned to the moon after Apollo 17. Of course this mission was never revealed and was covered up by NASA and DOD. It is a cross between the Aliens and Apollo 13 movies.

I recommend it if your a sci-fi and astronomy fan. I give it a 4.5 out of 5.

Starring Warren Christie (This Means War, Beneath) as Ben Anderson, Lloyd Owen (Miss Potter, The Republic of Love) as Nate Walker and Ryan Robbins (Kill for Me, Cold Blooded) as John Grey.

Tower Heist (2011)

This is a movie about a wealthy business man who gambles with his buildings management company' s retirement investments and looses it all. The staff tries to get the money back and has to go to great lengths in efforts.

The movie is OK, it' s another one of Ben Stiller' s weird movies. I give it a 3 out of 5.

Key cast members are Ben Stiller (Tropic Thunder, The Watch) as Josh Kovaks, Eddie Murphy (Imagine That, Norbit) as Slide, Casey Affleck (The Killer Inside Me, Gone Baby Gone) as Charlie and Matthew Broderick (Margaret, Deck the Halls) as Mr. Fitzhugh.

 

Apollo 13 (1995)

This is the story about the Apollo 13 mission to the moon that went wrong, and shows the Astronauts journey on getting back home to Earth. This is a suspenseful thriller and a definite must see, I give it a 5 out of 5.

Starring Tom Hanks (Cloud Atlas, Larry Crowne) as Jim Lovell, Bill Paxton (Twister, Haywire) as Fred Haise, Kevin Bacon (X-Men: First Class, Rails & Ties) as Jack Swigert and Gary Sinese (The Forgotten, Forest Gump) as Ken Mattingly.

 

Operation Dumbo Drop (1995)

This film is about a village in Vietnam vital to the US Army' s fight against the North Vietnamese Army, that has an important and symbolic elephant killed. The soldiers in the village must bring them a new elephant to keep it' s support. 

Cast members include Danny Glover (Highland Park, Diehard series) as Capt. Sam Cahill, Ray Liotta (Good Fellas, Ticket Out) as Capt. T.C. Doyle and Denis Leary (Company Man, Ice Age) as Lt. David Poole.

This is a great family movie, I give it a 4 out of 5.

Beneath the Darkness (2011)

This is a movie about a killer mortician who murders his wife and embalms her to keep her from decomposing, who is discovered by some local teens. After one of them is murdered and the other is kidnapped a rescue attempt ensues.

Starring Dennis Quaid (Legion, Soul Surfer) as Ely, Aimee Teegarden (Prom, Scream 4) as Abby, Tony Oller (The Purge) as Travis and Stephen Lunsford (Maneater, Bratz) as Brian. It is a horror/thriller movie, and I give at a 3 out of 5.

 

Pitch Perfect (2012)

This is a musical film that is actually pretty good.....for a musical. It's about a group of college kids, mostly freshman that join a musical sorority and enter into a singing/dance competition.

If you like movies like Rent and Hairspray you would probably like this movie. I give it a 4 out of 5.

Starring Anna Kendrick (End of Watch, Twilight Series) who is also the singer of the hit song on the radio Cups, Anna Camp (The Help, True Blood TV series), Rebel Wilson (Bachelorette, Bridesmaids) and Brittany Snow (96 Minutes, Prom Night).

Safe House (2012)

A CIA agent is on the run with a fugitive who is an ex CIA agent. He discovers secrets that have been held about other agents with the CIA, MI6 and other international agencies. He fights to keep the fugitive alive and get him to the new safe house.

This is a great action movie starring Denzel Washington (Flight, Inside Man) as Tobin Frost, Ryan Reynolds (The Chane-Up, The Proposal) as Matt Weston, Vera Farmiga (Source Code, Up in the Air) as Catherine Linklater and Sam Shepard (Black Hawk Down, The Pledge) as Harlan Whitford.

I give this movie a 4.5 out of 5.

300 (2006)

"Tonight We Dine In Hell"  - King Leonidas

What an awesome movie, the first movie to use the new grit effect for films, and a very distinct type of special effect. A group of 300 Spartan soldiers led by King Leonidas battle a Persian army at Thermopylae in 480 B.C. They meet worthy opponent, and make for an awesome action movie.

Gerard Butler (Olympus Has Fallen, Gamer) as King Leonidas, Lena Headey (Dredd, Laid to Rest) as Queen Gorgo, Dominic West (John Carter, Chicago) as Theron, David Wenham (Australia, Van Helsing) as Dilios and Vincent Regan (Outside Bet, Lockout) as Captain.

21 Jump Street (2012)

A spin off from the 80' s TV series, this is a very funny movie filled with established actors and up and coming talent. A very funny movie, a must see.

The movie is about two former high school enemies who run into each other at the police academy. They later team up and infiltrate a high school drug ring. Starring Jonah Hill (This Is the End, The Watch) as Schmidt, Channing Tatum (White House Down, This Is the End) as Jenko, Brie Larson (Rampart, Greenberg) as Molly Tracey and James Franco' s younger brother Dave Franco (Warm Bodies, Now You See Me) as Eric Molson.

I give this a definite 5 out of 5.

Alex Cross (2012)

The movie Alex Cross is based from the book series written by James Patterson. It is an action pact thriller movie about Cross hunting down the killer who killed his pregnant wife and his partner. The killer specializes in torturing his victims before death.

Featuring Tyler Perry (Good Deeds, Madea Goes To Jail) as Alex Cross, Edward Burns (Newlyweds, 15 Minutes) as Thomas Kane, Matthew Fox (Speed Racer, Vantage Point) as Picasso, Jean Reno (Ronin, Armored) as Giles Mercier and Carmen Ejogo (Sparkle, Pride and Glory) as Maria Cross.

If you like Tyler Perry' s acting, you should see him in the films he produces himself.

This movie gets a 4 out of 5.

 

Iron man 3 (2013)

What can I say, the best Iron Man movie of all three. This movie has INCREDIBLE graphics and special effects.

Starring Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man, The Avengers) as Tony Stark, Gwyneth Paltrow (Contagion, Proof) as Pepper Potts and Don Cheadle (Flight, Traitor) as Colonel James Rhodes. Tony Stark's life gets turned upside down, and he begins to rebuild and get even. This movie has many surprising twists and turns.

I definitely recommend this movie. 5 out of 5. Also see Iron Man, Iron man 2 and The Avengers.

The Hangover Part III (2013)

This is the final movie in the 3 part trilogy. It follows the same format of 4 friends take a trip, someone gets kidnapped and they fight to get him back.

It has the usual cast of Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook, Limitless), Ed Helms (Cedar Rapids, Jeff, Who Lives at Home), Zack Galifianakis (Due Date, The Campaign) and Ken Jeong (Pain & Gain, Zookeeper).

I give this movie a 4.5 out of 5.


 
 

The Heat (2013)

This movie was hilarious, everyone in the theater could not stop laughing. I definitely recommend seeing this one. 5 out 5!!!!

FBI agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock - The Blind Side, The Proposal) gets partnered with Det. Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy - The Hangover Part III, Identity Thief) to take down a Boston drug lord. Set backs ensue including interactions with Mullins' s family are all tainted by the fact that she arrested her brother for drug use.

A few other cast members of note: Marlon Wayans (A Haunted House, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra), Ben Falcone (Bridesmaids, Identity Thief).

Dark Shadows (2012)

A hilarious vampire comedy starring Johnny Depp (The Lone Ranger, Pirates of the Caribbean) as Barnabas Collins who was imprisoned for 200 years. When he is set free, he returns to his old home and works with his decedents to reclaim the town that his family business built. The movie also stars Michelle Pfieffer (People Like Us, Hairspray), Helena Bonham Carter (The Lone Ranger, Alice in Wonderland) and Eva Green (Casino Royale, Kingdom of Heaven).

As usual Johnny Depp showcases his awkward sense of humor in the quirky characters he plays like Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean and Edward in Edward Scissor Hands. The movie has a dark hue which adds to the feel of the movie.

I give this movie a definite 5 out 5. Bravo, Bravo!!!!!!!!!

If you like Johnny Depp I would recommend seeing all the Pirates movies.




The Kids Are All Right (2010)

This is a movie about 2 kids played by Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland, Defiance) and Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, RV) who are raised by a lesbian couple played by Julianne Moore (Crazy, Stupid, Love, Being Flynn) and Annette Bening (American Beauty, Running with Scissors). Upon graduating Mia' s character decides she wants to meet the sperm doner who is there biological father played by Marc Ruffalo (Marvel the Avengers, Shutter Island). Once they meet him an interesting chain of events unravels.

I think it' s a pretty funny movie with a well known cast. It is a great comedy and I recommend it. Not suitable for children as there are several nude scenes.

I give it a 4.5 out of 5.

Some other movies you might enjoy with these cast members are The Hunger Games (2012), American Beauty (1999) and Marvel' s the Avengers (2012).

To Rome with Love (2012)

This film is a Woody Allen - directed film, starring Woddy Allen (Casino Royale [67], Scenes from a Mall), Penelope Cruz (Nine, Vicky Crsitina Barcelona), Alec Baldwin (Rock of Ages, It' s Complicated), Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me, The Social Network), Ellen Page (Inception, Juno) and Roberto Benigni (Pinocchio, The Monster) just to name a few.

It is a romantic comedy that takes place in Rome. The story is about 4 couples and residents in Rome and the predicaments they get into. A young architect (Jesse Eisenberg) falls for one of his girlfriend' s old friends (Ellen Page), an average guy (Roberto Benigni) gets hounded by the paparazzi but dosnt understand why.  It is a fast moving film and a little hard to follow with subtitles.

Overall I would give this movie a 3 out of 5.
